Abstract
The purpose of AAC intervention is that AAC users have communicative competencies for interactions with familiar and unfamiliar communication partners in home, schools, and community. The success of the interaction between AAC users and communication partners depends on the interaction skills of the communication partners as well as the communicative competencies of AAC users. From the mid-1990, research has emphasized on the importance of commuication partners¡¯ roles for interaction with AAC users. The purpose of this analysis was reviewed empirical studies to implement AAC communication partner training programs between 2000 and 2011. 10 studies were identified and analyzed with characteristics of participants, dependent variables, the types of AAC, research methodologies, and training program employed. Out of 5 studies conducted training for peers with AAC users, 2 studies were for siblings, and the rest of them conducted for mothers of children who used AAC. Single-subject research design was the most frequently used methodology to investigate the effectiveness of training programs. All studies reported the positive results of training program.
